No, he is only interested in getting elected!
He only uses communalism, ethnicity, religion,
his father's name etc and sometimes language
of division to achieve this aim not realising
the tremendous danger of this. It is strange
that in his speeches he seldom mentions his
mother!
His model for Mauritius is, in my opinion, Singapore
which became independent in 1965. Two years later
it was the turn of Mauritius. Singapore went on to become
a first class economy. Perhaps he is disappointed
Mauritius is lagging behind. If one reads how Singapore
(ruled by one family for 48 years!) achieved this,
one can easily determine what path Mauritius is
following. He is simply pushing harder! Singapore
is an authoritarian state, a 'democratic dictatorship.'
I was not surprised when (as reported in the press)
he ordered the MBC not to edit his speech. I am
sure other countries are not amused! It is becoming
harder and harder for him to talk about freedom of
expression when he goes overseas. There is little of
it in Singapore. Only money has freedom of
speech there! And so it will be in Mauritius in the not
too distant future. Let us fasten our seat belts!

Electorat Maurice connu pou so memoire hyper courte.

As communalism is the only thing which matters
at election time in Mauritius, there is one
community which the government would not wish
to antagonise too much. It is the muslim
community. Who becomes the acting PM when the
latter is overseas? Without the support of
the muslim community the Labour Party has no
chance in my opinion.
It really does not matter who wins because the
corrosion of communalism will be perpetuated
by the new government. Should there be communalism
in "Paradise"?

Li interessant ki ena ene tendance penser ki tous hindous priviligies.
I have written about this a few times. Religion is the power base of
the government in Mauritius. The government is actually using the taxpayers
money to buy the support of these socio-cultural groups. The latter have always
determined who will govern the country. This is why the politicians never fail
to attend the endless religious ceremonies of these groups which are
televised by the MBC - the propaganda tool of the government entrusted
in maintaining the relentless brainwashing of the mauritian voter. Currently
freedom of expression is under pressure in Mauritius even stretching to
online forums hosted by MT. One wonders why the national telecommunication
organisation should be muzzled in this way. One is starting to smell the
stench of 'democratic' dictatorship Singapore's style - a country admired
by the PM!

Nice icon Zeus. I love it. Its face reminds me of
a feral cat I came across a few weeks ago.
He's one mean 'matou' alright!
Perhaps the PM has 'advisors' there!
Navin has tons of advisors but I'm not sure whether he listens to any of them.
A recent survey reveals that about 40% of young 'patriots' want
to migrate. And a good percentage of the laureat 'patriots'
do not return. This indicates that the malaise in Mauritius is
currently rather strong. We should cease to describe (in brochures
etc) Mauritius overseas as being a 'paradise'. A question sometimes
put to mauritians living abroad is: 'Why did you leave 'paradise?'
This is rather embarassing because it implies that one is now in hell!
I somehow feel the text below has a connection with Navin's past behaviours and the country's headlong trip to ............hell.
'' Moral poverty is the poverty of being without loving, capable, responsible adults who teach you right from wrong; the poverty of being without parents and other authorities who habituate you to feel joy at other's joy, pain at others' pain, satisfaction when you do right, remorse when you do wrong; the poverty of growing up in the virtual absence of people who teach morality by their own everyday example and who insist that you follow suit. In the extreme, moral poverty is the poverty of growing up severely abused and neglected at the hands of deviant, delinquent, or criminal adults." quoted from Body Count, by William J. Bennett, John J. DiIulio, Jr., & John P. Walters, Simon & Shuster (1996) Pg 56:

I don't think this is anything new. I think almost all Mauritian families have at least one (and often many, many more) relative who has been abroad for decades. We just have to remember the legions of Mauritians who emigrated to Europe, Australia and Canada some thirty-plus years ago to conclude that people have felt for a long time that they suffocated in Mauritius.
And how could they not? If anyone has any desire to reach higher, go further, in other words, push their own boundaries and aim for the sky, they have to admit that Mauritius is stifling and discouraging.
You have put it more clearly than I did Saguaro.
The quote of Perdipoint is also an enlightening
one. The question is what is suffocating the
mauritians? Is it globalisation, new technology
or the fast pace of 'developments'? It does
not seem that things will get better as the
assault on the environment becomes merciless.
The recent oil spill near the Caudan is a
frightening wake up call. Mauritius will always
remain 'fragile' and it does not matter what
party is in power and who is the PM. Maybe
it is this fragility which the mauritians are
escaping by migrating. It is about time the
government give the mauritians living abroad
the right to vote!!
You know, I think you're on to something when you speak of the "fragility" of Mauritius. Mauritius is very much dependent on- one could say "at the mercy of"- many other countries, the larger powers which give it aid but then expect it to act as they wish. In many ways, the prospects of Mauritius (and hence of Mauritians) are very much limited by what the larger powers allow it to do.... This is the reality of all the poor, less powerful countries of this world, of course.
And the mauritians dare talk about being independent with
pride!! Countries like Mauritius will never be really
independent. It will always be a 'limited independence'.
'Independence' has been replaced by economic neo-colonialism.
But if it is impossible to be independent on the outside,
it is possible to be inwardly free. This can only be achieved
at the individual level.
Depi mo dan sa pays la (england) zamais mo ine tender ki ene ministre ine vine ranne visit bane moricien ki ici, etudier travail etc... zamais premier ministre ki jagnat ou navin ine pren initiative pu zoin bane moricien dan uk. Demande Navin kan li vine londre eski banla met Tapis rouge pou li? apres tous kot pu alle met sa? ici tpis rouge appelle sa bus lane hehehe ...tantion tandire The PM of mauritius has been run down by a double decker... mo p encore attane ene MP de moris vine visit nou...
Pa fini, dimin independance day, eski navin pu capav dibouter kan p leve drapo national.. li pied pu trembler 1) parski li pu sou 2) li pu senti li coupable parski li pa p faire narien pu sa pays la 3) dire moi zot meme esp those in mauritius..
This is so true! They come, they go and do as if we
do not exist. But there are about 120,000 of us
studying, working and living overseas! Now when
Mauritius is in economic trouble they are calling
on us to invest in the island or come back to help.
Yet they will not give us back our right to vote!
They have created two classes of mauritians. They
treat us as second class mauritians. No wonder
most laureats refuse to return.
Ever since my invisible pooch, Zoltan, learned of Ti-Ramgoolam's visit to Rodrigues (L'express Rod. 07/03), he hasn't been able to contain his excitement, and has gone off his food.
Despite intensive medical intervention, recurring nightmares still torment my canine friend. The same poisoned dream still visits him in the dark - of every night. That is, vivid images, in living colour, of Ti-Ramgoolam landing at Plaine Corail airport astride a giant Pegasus (minus the Aston Villa).
Zoltan speaks of seeing the unholy trinity of Judas Iscariot, Brutus and Benedict Arnold face down on the tarmac, on all fours, yellow fangs dripping with fresh bone and flesh, waiting to greet their beloved Emperor.
Zoltan also recalls ticker-tape parades from La Ferme to Port-Mathurin, and streets lined with counter-rotating-eyed uncle-Toms, madly waving their shackles like a badge of honour. Baby-whales too, he says, are selflessly beaching themselves off Baie-Malgache to feed the people. Ahh, what a sight, poor Zoltan!
Invariably, the dream always becomes foggy when Pegasus turns into a Gorgon, and ends up chasing Zoltan from his country. No wonder, his tail wags no more.
Don't know what to make of my beleaguered little mutt's dream; I guess it's something to do with Emperor Augustus returning to Rome - after Caesar's demise.
More nightmares for Zoltan in the years ahead!
Only three years left until the next election. But never
mind; Zoltan has nine lives. It can afford to waste one
or two.
Mo croire ine time pou tire ca sondage la.
Well, so beau-pere ena raison etonne.
Maybe he does not trust anyone and tries to
do everything himself. It is sad if this is true.
Every human being has a right to a have enough
sleep especially for someone who has to make
vital decisions for the nation. One wonders how
he finds time to drive his Aston Martin!
Lor ki zafer li travay coume ca? Lor next macarena party? Lor next trip dan Londres pu alle visite bann dimounes ki bien dear to him?
Mem ar paques, mo pas krawr ki navin pou reussi faire resurrection so popilarite dan sondaz! Enfin, ki konner? Li meme sovere moris, kapav li faire ene miracle!
I feel that soon there will be a crackdown on freedom
of speech in Mauritius. We all know that he wants
Mauritius to be like Singapore. Therefore one may
know what he will do in the future by examining
what Singapore is doing. He may become another
Lee Kwan Yu! The latter is retired now. What not
employ him as a consultant?
